Another week…another weekly running recap!

Sunday: Rest
Monday: 30 minute run
Tuesday: 30 minute incline jog
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 30 minute HIIT
Friday: 30 minute run
Saturday: 9 mile run

I have some disappointing news. Ok, maybe it isn’t disappointing to you, but it is to me. The sun is rising later and later each day. That means I have had to resume running my weekday runs on the treadmill. I swear I could hear my treadmill laughing at me as I was pleading with the sun to rise earlier on Monday morning.  Oh well, that just means I need to appreciate my long runs (still outside- yay!) that much more!

Another week…another weekly running recap!

Sunday: Rest
Monday: 30 minute run
Tuesday: 30 minute run
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 30 minute run
Saturday: 1 hour run

I was supposed to have run a half-marathon this weekend. I decided it was best for me not to participate.

Why?

I have been dealing with a really bad case of “not good enough”. I have allowed myself to get caught up in comparing myself to other runners, and I have found myself lacking. In turn, that has taken the joy out of running. This has been going on for a while and just this week I realized it. But in realizing it, I can make changes! It’s time to get back to finding the joy- regardless of what my pace is!

I will not be doing a monthly challenge for April. I’m taking the month as it comes!

Have a great weekend!

Another week…another weekly running recap!

Sunday: Rest
Monday: 1 hour run, 100 crunches, 25 (x2) push-ups, 20 squats
Tuesday: 30 minute HIIT, 30 minute walk
Wednesday: 1 hour walk, 30 squats
Thursday: 45 minute run, 100 crunches, 25 (x2) push-ups
Friday: 30 minute incline walk, + 40 squats
Saturday: 10 mile run

Nothing new and exciting this week. The weather forecast is showing some 60 degree days for next week (fingers are crossed that they are right), so maybe I can get outside for a few miles- blow some stink off of me (one of my grandmother’s sayings!)!

Have a good weekend!

This morning I participated in a virtual race, hosted by The Boring Runner! Adam hosts 2 of these every year, summer and winter. As you can tell by the picture, it is a 5k (3.1 miles). This can be done as a stand-alone run, or it can be included in a longer run…basically anything goes!

As it is snowing here, and I am a cold-weather wuss (the picture doesn’t show the snow falling, but trust me- it is), so it’s the trusty treadmill to the rescue! My 5k was completed in 28:35. Not too bad, as I ran another 3 miles to get my long run in for the week!

It's snowing now, but Mother Nature has made a pond in my side yard from all the rain!

Sunday: Rest
Monday: 3 mile run + 30 push-ups (x2) and 100 crunches
Tuesday: 30 minute interval hill workout
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 30 minute speed (HIIT) workout
Friday: 3 mile run + 30 push-ups (x2) and 100 crunches
Saturday: 6.1 mile run

These are the last few days of the 100 push-up challenge. If you have been participating, how did you do? I’m pretty happy with making it to 30. I know that is nowhere near 100, so I am going to keep adding these in to my workouts. I’m also going to re-visit this challenge later in the year, so maybe I will have a better chance at making it then!

One last thing: a quick “Thank You” shout-out to Skinny Runner and Fit Approach! Skinny Runner had a contest for a Sweat Pink tank top (from Fit Approach), and I was one of the random-drawn winners! I received my tank, along with some cool bright pink shoes-laces! It’s too cold for me to model (my skin goes into hibernation in the winter!), but here is a picture!

Question(s) of the day: If you read blogs (more than just mine!), have you ever won a contest…and if so, what did you win?  AND…for those of you with your own blog, have you ever held a contest, and of so, what was the prize?

On the treadmill again!

I’m running again! It’s been awhile and it feels good to be back at it.

On October 5th, my doctor put a stop to my running. That was a bummer, as I was scheduled to run my 5th half-marathon (of the year), the following weekend. For 4 weeks I did nothing. I ate bad-for-me food (think HoHo’s) and did not exercise. I think I was feeling sorry for myself. Crabby pants and bad attitude.

Then, with a few magic words “Everything looks ok”, the sunshine came out and the bad attitude took a hike.

So, I have decided I am going to post weekly updates/recaps (whatever you I want to call them). When you read these, please keep in mind the following things: 1) I am slow…and I’m ok with that. 2) I am in no way an expert on fitness. I have no training. My knowledge is only from what I have read and things that have or have not worked for me. 3) If you are thinking of starting a fitness regimen, please consult your doctor (I know you have heard this before).

That said…here’s what this week looked like:

Sunday…1 hour treadmill run/walk
Monday… 30 minute treadmill incline walk
Tuesday…rest
Wednesday… 30 minute treadmill run
Thursday…30 minute treadmill sprint workout
Friday…rest
Saturday…1 hour 30 minute treadmill run/walk
Sunday (planned)…rest

I have noticed that after not running for a few weeks, while my body feels good (no soreness the next day), I struggle with my breathing. So for the first couple weeks, I will stick to a run/walk plan. Ease my way back into it.

Races for 2012:

So far, I am signed up for the Cleveland Rite-Aid half marathon in May. I ran the race this year for the 1st time, and PR’d at 2:29:18! I’m hoping to beat that time.
I am also signed up to run the Rock-N-Roll half marathon in Chicago in July.

I’m still toying with wanting to run a half in February or March. I’ve been eyeballing a half in Kentucky in March.   We’ll see.

Question: Look at the post title. Substitute one word and what song do you have?

Ready to Run!

Four half-marathons this year. I had planned to run 5, but three weeks ago the doctor said “No.”

Well guess what???

I saw my doctor yesterday and I was given the go ahead to start running again!

So…I’m looking for a half marathon, mid to late February. Any ideas?
